ROOTS artist Derrin Nauendorf returns to the Old Town Hall Theatre in Hemel next week as part of the launch tour of his new album Skin of the Earth.
Just seven years ago Derrin arrived at Heathrow from his native Australia short of cash and with only one phone number - but with plenty of energy and enthusiasm he was determined to make a splash in Europe.
He’s gone on to play throughout the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Holland, as well as returning to his native homeland for the occasional tour.
He’s opened for Van Morrison and has recorded six albums to date, including his first commercial recording The Rattling Wheel which received a four star review in the Sunday Express alongside Jools Holland, Tom Waits and The Beatles!
His blend of folk, blues, country, Americana and rock combines voice and lyric to create a unique and passionate, rootsy sound that reaches out and draws the listener in.
Of his second commercial release Skin of the Earth he said:
“I wanted to make an album of music that supported lyrics that are very stylised and broad for interpretation. I didn’t want to spell out a specific journey in the songs. I have tried to create a wide spectrum of lyrics that could apply to the listener’s own journey, not just mine. I have also played some electric guitar for the first time to add a different dimension and give it a slight southern rock feel.”
Derrin Nauendorf will be at The Old Town Hall Theatre, Hemel Hempstead on Friday, January 28, 8pm.
