Swing along to Jazz evening

BERKHAMSTED Jazz Club present Allen Beechey’s Bright Stars of Jazz at Berko’s Civic Centre next Saturday.

The Bright Stars of Jazz recreate good-time driving jazz in the style of Eddie Condon, Louis Armstrong, Wild Bill Davison and their colleagues of the 1930’s to the 1950’s.

They combine this with other styles from New Orleans to mainstream plus some original compositions.

Allen is the band’s leader, learning to play while at Nottingham University he began his career with Dave Brennan’s Jubilee Jazz band and Chris Blount’s New Orleans band.

He’s accompanied by clarinettist Richie Howard who graduated from the Guildhall School of Music, Malcolm Earl-Smith who studied classical trombone as a junior at the Royal College of Music and later Jazz and Studio Music at the Guildhall School of Music, pianist Charles Condy, Heather Birt on double bass, guitarist Andy Ruiz Palma and Dominic Coles on drums.

Allen Beechey’s Bright Stars of Jazz will be at the Civic Centre, Berkhamsted on Saturday, June 25, 8pm.
