IN 2004 unknown singer-songwriter Katie Buckhaven sent a demo of her music to Sir Michael Parkinson.

With no management, agent or record company, and armed with nothing more than a beautiful voice and evocative songs, this was a long-shot.

A couple of weeks later Parkinson’s producer got in touch, making Katie the first unsigned artist to be played on Michael Parkinson’s Sunday morning Radio 2 show.

Shortly after this Katie signed with Hot Records - most famous for bringing Eva Cassidy to the attention of Terry Wogan - and she released her debut album in October 2004.

It received a four star review in The Guardian, and The Mail on Sunday described her voice as ‘outstanding’,

Katie has a unique and haunting voice, and her sound is a seductive blend of ethereal, melodic folk rock and heartbreaking ballads.

She has just released her new album The Girl in the White Dress and will be at the Old Town Hall Theatre in Hemel on Friday, February 18, 8pm.
