The Hemel Hempstead Singers will perform a selection of love songs, choral dances and lullabies arranged by three English composers in their summer concert at St John’s Church, Boxmoor.

The performance on Saturday, June 29, which starts at 8pm, features Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands, a cycle of six choral songs, and Five English Folk Songs arranged by Vaughan Williams, a selection including songs with a taste of the sea, The Dark Eyed Sailor and Just As The Tide Was Flowing.

Conducted by their musical director Simon Pusey, the choir will also sing The Sprig of Thyme, a cycle of folk-song settings by John Rutter, featuring English, Scottish and Irish songs.

The cycle includes a number of familiar melodies such as The Bold Grenadier and The Keel Row.

Soprano soloist is Eleanor Hart, who will also perform a cello solo, and the choir will be accompanied by pianist Anna Le Hair.

Refreshments will be served in the interval.

Tickets, at £10 each, are available from the choir secretary, on 01442 386657, or on the door.
