It’s described as the greatest musical you’ve never heard of – but if you’re not familiar with She Loves Me, you’ll certainly know the story.
Tring Festival Company presents a rare production of this little jewel from Tuesday next week, and the cast are all set for a memorable show.
She Loves Me is just one of the variations of the scenario that Hollywood has happily returned to again and again – most notably in The Little Shop Around The Corner with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan and Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan reboot You’ve Got Mail.
Music is by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, who also came up with the score for Fiddler on the Roof and the book is from the pen of Joe Masteroff, who also includes Cabaret on his CV.
The set-up? Two feuding shop workers secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, but guess what? Their confidante correspondents are...well, you know how it goes.
It’s set in the 1930s but it’s as fresh as a daisy, combining memorable music with witty and engaging dialogue.
The cast features new faces as well as many who will be familiar from recent productions such as West Side Story and Calendar Girls.
