The curtain goes up tonight on the 2013 open air Shakespeare Festival at Tring’s Pendley Manor, with As You Like It the first play to be performed.

The play last featured at Pendley in 2007 and the pastoral comedy is ideally suited for a balmy summer night.

Performances continue until Saturday, and next week the second Shakespeare showcase is Love’s Labour’s Lost, another comedy and one of the Bard’s earlier works, which again runs from Tuesday to Saturday.

Artistic director Sarah Branston promises a brilliant ensemble company this year, giving both actors and audience a flavour of the much-missed theatrical tradition of ‘rep’.
