A PUB landlord reckons he stands to save almost £20,000 after a court ruling that will break BSkyB’s monopoly over sport broadcasting in Britain.

Garry Clements, landlord of The Goat in Berkhamsted High Street, had in the past been fined £6,000 for using Viasat, a Swedish broadcasting company, to screen pub football.

The cheaper provider charges Garry £3,000 per year to screen matches in his pub and lets him choose which game to show if matches clash.

But BSkyB charges £1,500 per month, and only lets him show one game that the corporation chooses when matches clash.
