Members of Hemel Hempstead Photographic Society have gathered to celebrate the 90th birthday of the president Eric Earl.

Eric was born in 1923 and became interested in photography when he was 16. It has played a great part in his life ever since.

Eric joined the society in 1964 and served on the committee for many years, becoming president of the club in 1971.

He began teaching photography at Dacorum College more than 30 years ago and during the 1980s started City & Guilds courses.

Many club members, including current chairman Tom Derbyshire, achieved their Licentiateship of The Royal Photographic Society with Eric’s guidance whilst doing the City and Guilds examination. Needless to say many were also persuaded to join HHPS.

In April 1991 Eric obtained his Associateship of The Royal Photographic Society and became a committee member of the Chiltern Association of Camera Clubs.

Eric still loves his photography and in all the years he has been a member of the club he has only missed about half a dozen meetings

He always has an encouraging word for club members and takes a keen interest in all HHPS activities.

The society meets at 8pm every Monday evening. Please see the website for venue details www.hhps.org.uk

You are very welcome to attend a meeting without obligation, just £2.50 at the door. To find out more about HHPS visit our website or join us on Facebook and Twitter at Hemel Hempstead Photographic Society.
