A dinner dance to celebrate the vital work done by firefighters is being organised for September.

The black tie event, called Jig For Victory, will be held at Pendley Manor Hotel in Tring and will have a 1940s theme.

Organiser Hannah Duggan, who lives in Marsworth, said: “It should be very good fun. This year is the 70th anniversary of the Fire Fighters Charity and we thought a 40s theme would be appropriate.”

Miss Duggan, 26, works for the charity as a regional fundraiser but is part of a four-strong team organising the dinner dance in a voluntary capacity.

Pendley Manor is giving the use of the venue without charge, and has also donated one of the raffle prizes, a night’s stay at the hotel.

Other raffle prizes include a signed shirt from soccer star Theo Walcott and £200 worth of cycling vouchers.

Final details of the event on Saturday, September 28, are still being confirmed but the three course dinner is likely to be chicken terrine, a beef main course and a chocolate fondant pudding.

Early bird tickets purchased before next Wednesday, July 24, cost £60 per person, after that they cost £65.

The price includes a glass of bubbly on arrival, the three course meal, half a bottle of wine, music and entertainment.
