There are just under two weeks left until a big-budget Disney movie that was partly shot in the Ashridge Estate hits the UK’s cinemas.
Although the Hollywood stunner was only there for a day and was kept was well hidden, dog-walkers, ramblers and runners accidentally stumbled onto film sets during the following days.
One said: “Special effects crews were everywhere, and there was fake snow all over the trees. It was very bizarre, I’ll tell you that much.”
Maleficent is a reworking of Walt Disney’s 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty and portrays the children’s story from the perspective of the baddie, Maleficent.
Maleficent, played by Jolie, is a vindictive fairy who also appears in the form of a dragon and rises to become the self-proclaimed Mistress of All Evil. She curses an infant princess only to realise the child may be the only one who can restore peace.
In the trailer, Maleficent says: “There is evil in this world, hatred and revenge.”
The film is due to be released on Friday, May 30.
Other successful films that used Ashridge Estate for filming include Sleepy Hollow and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
