Berkhamsted Tennis Club finals day

BERKHAMSTED Tennis Club was graced by sunny weather as club members battled it out for trophies on finals day.

The action kicked off with the ladies’ singles, and Judith Allnutt dispensed with 14-year-old Lizzie Johnson 6-0, 6-1.

Judith said, “In difficult windy conditions my sliced backhand was a useful weapon and fewer unforced errors made the difference.”

In the men’s singles, meanwhile, Berkhamsted Elite Tennis Academy head coach Tyrell Diaz Stevens beat 18-year-old rising star Adam Coyne 6-3, 7-5.

Tyrell said, “Adam is playing really well, I knew it was going to be a tough match.

“At 18, he is about to embark on the next step in his tennis career by going to Alabama State University on a tennis scholarship, so we wish him all the best.”

In the other main events, Anna Linton and Laura Godfrey beat Allnutt and Jenny Webster in the ladies’ doubles, while Brad Crosher and Stevens beat Alex Haddad and Chris Hill in the men’s doubles.

Coshner and Linton also won the mixed doubles against Haddad and Jo Hodge.

The David Lidderdale Memorial Cup for Endeavour was awarded to Anna Popescu.

Popescu is only 14 but already has a World U18 ranking of 1883 and is the UK number 15 in her age group.
