Second place for Tring in top competition
TRING Squash Club has finished as runner-up in the England Squash National Club of the Year competition
Having been named the England Squash Eastern Region Club of the Year, Tring went forward as one of four clubs into the national finals.
The other clubs in contention were from Solihull, Redcar and Wimbledon, with Solihull Arden eventually crowned champions.
The strengths of each club were assessed by an independent judging panel, who scrutinised membership levels, court usage, community involvement, junior coaching schemes, squash development and volunteer participation.
The finalists were then invited to attend quarter-finals day at the British Open Squash Championships at the O2 Arena, where World Number One James Willstrop – who recently opened Tring’s new glass-back court – was in action.
The competition awards were announced during a break in the matches, and representatives from all four clubs were invited onto the main court arena to receive their awards from Peter Nichol – a former English World No 1.
Tring chairman Betty Longhurst said: “Our club members were delighted that Tring has received national recognition for its efforts in developing and promoting squash and racketball in the local area.”
