Tring’s young guns fire past Stortford
TringRugby Academy Colts 20 Bishop’s Stortford 14
The TringRugby Academy Colts secured a well earned victory over Bishop’s Stortford to book their place in the next round of the County Cup.
The 20-14 win came courtesy of a fantastic second half performance, with tries from Zac Mickalski, Ed Ellson and captain Charlie Goss Lambourne doing the damage.
Tring had started brightly and soon took a three-point lead through the boot of man of the match Rory Criddle.
Bishop’s Stortford hit back strongly, though, with two converted tries handing them a 14-3 half-time lead.
The second half was an end-to-end affair, with both teams testing their opposing defences.
Eventually, the elusive running of Mickalski broke the Stortford defensive line and tries from him and Lambourne took Tring into a narrow one-point lead.
Bishop’s Stortford came back strongly, but the defensive efforts of Henry Stubbs forced a turnover and his strong running and link play ended with the decisive try for Ellson.
The last five minutes was all Bishop’s Stortford, but 17 unanswered points in the second half meant that the young Tring side held on for another impressive result.
