AN angling club is organising a family fishing day as part of National Fishing Month.

The event, at historic Westbrook Mere, takes place on Sunday from 10am to 4pm and will offer everyone who attends the chance to try fishing. All tackle, bait and tuition will be provided.

“Last year we introduced over 70 people to the sport, most of whom had never fished before,” said Boxmoor and District Angling Society secretary Gary Cullum.

“This event is especially for those who have never fished before and particularly women and young children.

“For anyone who wants to have a go, this is their chance. Just turn up, and let’s help you catch your first fish.

“We can’t promise any of our very large carp will get caught, but everyone should at the very least catch a few small fish.

“People can just pop in for an hour or stay as long as they like and refreshments will be available.”

The event is being run by the Boxmoor club, which has fished at the Mere since 1927, with support from Tring Anglers and Verulam Angling Club of St Albans.
