In advance of the historic Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final at Wembley in the summer, Hemel Stags RLFC will be hosting their own knock-out tournament for players who just want to have a go and raise money for charity.
The rugby league club is looking for teams from local businesses, other rugby clubs, fans and members of the public, to take part in a Touch Rugby Challenge on Sunday, May 25 in aid of The Hospice of St Francis.
Touch Rugby is a fun, social game and there is no tackling involved. Players of any level can take part, the only requirement is a willingness to have fun and raise as many vital funds as possible. Players must also be over the age of 16.
The Hospice of St Francis provides professional support and care for people in West Herts with terminal illness – bringing peace, comfort and dignity to people and helping them to live life to the full.
Carolyn Addison, the Hospice’s corporate fundraising manager said: “I am thrilled that Hemel Stags RLFC have decided to support The Hospice of St Francis for the second year running at their touch rugby tournament.
“It was a really fun day last year and it is fantastic that this local sports team is pulling out all the stops to help us. Please register your teams now and help to make this a really successful day.”
Match day sponsors, NGK Spark Plugs Ltd, based in Hemel Hempstead, added: “We are only too pleased to support the Hemel Stags and its charity event to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity.
“As a locally based company we always strive to support organisations that work for the benefit of the whole community and are delighted to support the club in this initiative.”
The event opens at 11.30am for registration with matches starting at noon. Food will be served at 2pm.
Stags then welcomes all participants to stay and watch their Championship 1 against Oxford RLFC when it kicks off at 2.30pm.
Other highlights on the day include giant inflatables, a bar and refreshments.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online from www.hemelstags.com with a 25 per cent discount for both adults and children.
Teams of up to ten people can enter the Challenge with a non-refundable donation of £100 per team, which includes lunch and a ticket to see the Stags’ clash with Oxford.
Teams are also encouraged to raise sponsorship with a target of £200 per team. For more information or to register a team, visit the website or contact Anna Rowntree at email@example.com
