Hemel Stags face one of their biggest games of the season against London Skolars tomorrow as they welcome their near neighbours to Pennine Way Sports Ground.

Fresh from the Tetley’s Challenge Cup rounds earlier this month, both the Stags and the Skolars are preparing to give home and away fans a lively and exciting game when the two teams compete for the first time since meeting in September 2013.

“We are all looking forward to the derby game against Skolars,” said Stags coach Troy Perkins.

“There is a healthy rivalry between the two clubs not just because we are situated fairly close to each other but also plenty of players that will be involved in the game on Good Friday have played for both clubs.

“They are the established club that has been in the pro ranks for many years and we are the new kids on the block with this being our second season as a professional club.

“The three games we played against each other last season were all tight contests with Hemel winning the first game and Skolars winning the other two including knocking us out of the playoffs.

“Skolars have plenty of quality in their squad”, he continued. “They have several players with Super League experience including Mike Worrincy and Lamont Bryan and a lot of their players have been playing at this level for a long time.

“They have a big forward pack and they rely on this to get them up the field and put defences under pressure.

“We have been putting in some good performances and we can go into the game with a fair bit of confidence, although the players know they will need to put in another very good performance to get the win.”

A string of prior victories has earned Hemel Stags fourth place in the league table, whilst London Skolars retain their position in eighth place.

Celebrating the Easter holiday, Hemel Stags are giving away free chocolate Easter eggs to the first 100 children to arrive at the Pennine Way Sports Ground.

There will also be inflatable fun with a giant bungee run; refreshments available to purchase and fans can enjoy 25 per cent discount on adult and concession tickets when they book in advance via the club website www.hemelstags.com
