PUPILS at St Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Junior School have been getting to grips with the Aviva Premiership Cup.

Earlier this month, the Saracens Community Team visited St Cuthbert Mayne to give the children the chance to get a close look at the coveted trophy which Saracens won last season.

And following a photo call, a group of pupils took the opportunity to get involved in a rugby taster session provided by the Hemel Camelot RUFC coaches.

Head teacher Bernadette Quinn said that the pupils were very excited about getting their hands on the cup.

“It was a really exciting experience for the children,” she said. “They were amazed by the size of it. Some of them couldn’t lift it so just had to stand behind it instead!”

And Mrs Quinn, a keen Ireland rugby fan, says that the school is looking to increase interest in the sport amongst its pupils.

“The children are excited about the Rugby World Cup so we are hoping to promote it in school.

“A lot of our pupils already play for Camelot and we hope to encourage more children to get involved.”

The school is aiming to build on this year’s success in the Camelot Cup, with the 2012 competition scheduled to get under way in March. Further details on the event will be available soon.
