An excellent set of results were not enough to get the Berkhamsted first teams over the line as both the men and ladies missed out on promotion on goal difference.
The men beat Bishop’s Stortford 5-4 while the ladies won 3-1 against Cheshunt, but both sides were edged out overall by just two goals in the race for promotion.
Elsewhere, the men’s third team finished strongly with a 2-1 victory over Blueharts, while the seconds drew 2-2 with West Herts and the fourths drew 3-3 with Rickmansworth.
The fifth team went down 3-0 to West Herts, but the highlight of the weekend came from the U14 mixed team who won the Leighton Buzzard Tournament.
Managed by Ben Moorhouse, Berko drew 1-1 with Tring in their opening game, before winning 5-0 against Leighton Buzzard and losing 2-0 to Aylesbury.
Those results were enough for Berko to finish second in their group, and set up a semi-final clash with free-scoring tournament favourites Shefford & Sandy.
The game was locked at 1-1 after full-time, but Archie Casey scored a golden goal to put Berko through to the final.
There they met Aylesbury for the second time, but the tables were turned as Thomas Moorhouse struck to earn the win for Berko to the delight of his team-mates and coaches.
It was a gutsy win from Berkhamsted, who played with excellent team spirit and determination to deservedly lift the trophy.
