Saracens suffered a 36-6 away loss in the opening round of the LV= Cup on Saturday as they took on a strong Northampton Saints side.
The home side looked stronger throughout the match and scored five tries against a young and inexperienced Saracens line-up.
With the likes of England Internationals Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes to come off the bench against them, it was always going to be a tough afternoon for Sarries’ youngsters.
This proved to be the case as the Saints ran in two first half tries, one of which occurred whilst Kameli Ratuvou was in the sin bin on his return from a long-term knee injury. Saracens’ only reply came courtesy of two Ben Spencer penalties.
In the second half, Saints continued to build the pressure with Russian winger Vasily Artemyev completing his hat-trick and his opposite winger Jamie Elliott scoring two tries of his own.
Ultimately, Saracens put up a strong fight but were unable to match the power and experience of the Northampton side.
