Double Olympic medallist Max Whitlock will on hand to help with the official opening of Sapphire School of Gymnastics’ new centre in Hemel Hempstead.

The club has opened a second venue on Mark Road to cope with the ever-lengthening waiting list of youngsters eager to start training.

Sapphire’s existing gym at Sportspace has become too crowded and the new venue will help to ease this congestion.

The club has raised £20,000 in sponsored events and also has been awarded £10,000 from Sport England that has helped with the overall cost of the project.

Along with the usual pre-school, after school and weekend classes, Sapphire hopes to incorporate new free running, street dance and cheerleading sessions.

The new site opened for business on January 6 with all of the Sapphire staff pitching in over Christmas along with Steve Boad – the contractor in charge of the building works – in order to get the work finished.

The official opening will take place on Sunday, February 2 and will be attended by Max, MP Mike Penning host of club members.
