A youngster tipped for a bright future in golf has added to his ever-growing reputation by winning the European 8 to 10-year-olds’ Junior Championship at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
Two Waters Primary School pupil Callum Powell took on a field of the top 20 youngsters in his age group from the order of merit this year and won the competition by one shot with a 12-over-par round of 86.
Callum is 10 years old and has been playing golf since the age of four when coach Adian Ahmet spotted him on the driving range at Little Hay and took him under his wing.
Next year, Callum will play in the World Junior Masters in Las Vegas after qualifying as European champion.
His dad Derek is understandably proud of his son’s achievements and said: “As his dad, to see him win the competition was like a dream.
“We had a gameplan and Callum followed it step-by-step until the last hole when he missed a two-foot putt. I knew it was close!”
A tweet from Leighton Buzzard’s Mentmore Golf Club said: “Everyone should follow @callumpgolf as this young lad will be a superstar in the future.”
