Personal bests galore for the Hemel contingent

The Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club Red Team got off to a flying start in Division Two of the first round of the Herts Peanuts League.
The Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club Red Team got off to a flying start in Division Two of the first round of the Herts Peanuts League.

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club put in a top effort to finish in third place in round three of the Chiltern League.

The Hemel contingent achieved an impressive 43 personal best times, as well as bagging nine first-placed finishes, nine runner-up places and five third places.

Individual victories came from Melissa Brandon, Deanna Coe, Rayne Marsh, Chelsea Van Gelder, Oliver Burrough, Dominic Hampstead and Nicolas Martinez.

The girls’ U10 freestyle relay team and the girls’ U12 freestyle relay team also claimed wins, while second-placed finishes came from Fred Hockin, Michael Broner, Jonny Farrow, James McFarlane, Tarryn Smith, Emily Kilbane, Annabel Hockin, Jamie Stone and Melissa Brandon.

Swimmers of the Gala were Broner and Zara Rafiq-Craske.

Elsewhere, the Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club Red Team (pictured) got off to a flying start in Division Two of the first round of the Herts Peanuts League.

A team of 32 competed in 47 events – with wins coming from Billie Grant, Ben Calder, Mael Jegu and Nathan Eastham.

The relay teams also helped to boost the team’s position, with the 9-year-old boys winning their freestyle and medley relays and the U12s winning the freestyle relay.

By the end of the gala the team had clocked up an impressive 45 personal best times and finished in second place.
