Summer got off to a flying start at Tring Swimming Club when former Olympic swimmer Craig Gibbons took over coaching for the night to run a Dives & Starts masterclass.
More than 60 swimmers, aged from 8 to 16 years, attended the 90-minute session in the pool, learning how to improve their confidence and gain a competitive advantage at this critical stage of a race.
Gibbons, a freestyle sprint racer, was born in High Wycombe – where he is still a team member – and is and four-time British record holder.
He represented GB in the 4x100m freestyle at London 2012, and previously other World and European events at junior and senior level.
He now uses his skills and experience to teach swimming among young people of all ages and abilities.
Commenting on his Dives & Starts masterclass at Tring, Gibbons said: “I really enjoyed my visit; to see such a happy and enthusiastic group of swimmers greeting me was amazing.
“It’s great to see a club sticking to the values that make a swimming club. With the guidance of the coaches and the fun and relaxed atmosphere they create, I have no doubt these young swimmers will achieve everything they wish to.”
Gibbons plans to re-visit the club in September, when he will focus on improving techniques in a particular stroke.
He is also running a series of weekend Swim Vision Academy Clinics throughout 2014 at Chesham for all local club swimmers.
