Berkhamsted will take its place on the rugby map next season when a newly-formed team take to the field.
Berkhamsted RUFC will enter the Herts and Middlesex Merit Tables for the first time in September 2013, playing their home games at Lockhart Field in Cow Roast.
“We found it surprising that Berkhamsted, a town with a population of 20,000 people and a town with such an interest in sport, didn’t have a rugby club. We’re proud to announce that now it does,” said first XV secretary Matthew Cain.
“We want to spread the news and give everyone the opportunity to get involved in this exciting set-up.”
The club, sponsored by Cleanheat, will put out two teams – a first XV in Merit Table 6, and a second XV.
“Our current squad has a solid backbone of players who have played rugby together for some years at Hemel Camelot and we’re looking to add to this with players from the local community and further afield.”
The club colours will be navy blue and red, and training takes place on Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm followed by drinks in the bar.
“We welcome players of all ages and abilities and encourage people to come along to training and try their hand at the game,” said Matt.
