Bobbie stressed that the club always welcomes new ladies and will continue to organise events both at weekends and mid-week.

The new captain’s reign has certainly started well as, after entering the highly competitive county-wide Pearson Trophy for the first time, the Little Hay Ladies beat Harpenden Hammonds End 6-1 in their opening match.

The competition for the New Captain’s Cup was won by Linda Reeve with 38 points, followed by a tie for second place on 36 points between Dorcas Kindinger and Elaine Meagher.

After a count-back, Dorcas took second place and Elaine had to be content with third.

Elsewhere, more than 100 Little Hay senior men and their wives thanked retiring captain Phil Joslin for his leadership over the past year at a celebratory lunch.

Phil thanked all those who had helped run club activities in the past year and announced that £2,450 had been raised for his charity the Willow Foundation.

The new captain is Paul Thompson and his charity will be Watford Shopmobility. The new vice captain is Trevor Sargeant.

Meanwhile, Division One of the Men’s December Medal was won by Chris Venner with a strong score of 68. Jim Lochead was second with 70, beating Ashley Wade into third place with 71.

In Division Two, James Morris headed the field with 71, followed by Martin Evans with 74 and Steven Crowhurst with 75.

Finally the Winter League, which is open to members in all sections, has begun and after two rounds the leading pair is Jim Wallace and Chris Miles
