Hemel Stags have added to their 2014 Championship 1 squad with an exciting new signing – and it is all thanks to a family connection.

The player in question is James Cameron who has been signed from Championship club Whitehaven.

Stags Coach Troy Perkins said: “My father Keith Perkins coached James’s dad Laurie Cameron back in Sydney.

“Since then they have stayed in touch and Laurie mentioned to my dad that James was looking to move south but still continue to play a good standard of rugby league.

“He played nearly every game for Whitehaven last season as either wing or full-back but I would want to look at getting him a bit closer to the action.”

The Stags have also signed Jimmy Morgan, a full-back or winger, from Championship 1 rivals London Skolars who he joined after coming up through the ranks at the London Broncos Academy.

Perkins said: “He is super quick with good footwork and is strong in the contact area”
