A tremendous fourth quarter by Hemel Storm led them to an important National League Division One win against a stubborn Team Northumbria at Sportspace on Saturday night.
Storm started well and opened up a commanding early lead but Northumbria battled back to reduce the home team’s advantage to five points.
A trio of big three-pointers by Dru Spinks could not pull Hemel away from their hard working visitors, and Northumbria battled back to lead 19-18 at the end of the first quarter.
A three-pointer by Bode Adeluola was part of a 7-0 Hemel run to start the second quarter and the hosts eased back in front to lead 39-33 at half-time.
Again Northumbria fought back at the start of the third quarter to go 45-43 up, before Adeluola stopped the rot with two three-pointers for Hemel as the scores were locked at 57-all at the end of the period.
The fourth quarter was all Hemel, as Walid Mumuni took things into his own hands with a collection of steals, rebounds and scoring shots that eased his side out to a 10-point lead.
A huge three by Adeluola helped Storm increase their lead further and some tremendous defence saw Hemel home at a canter.
Hemel are back at Sportspace on Saturday with a Division One game against Essex Leopards at 4pm.
