The Gade Valley Harriers ‘Learn to Run’ group finished their 12-week beginners’ course this week with a four-mile run.

Nine runners completed the course, which started back in May with the assertion that non-runners would be able to run 5km (3.1 miles) in time for summer.

Each weekly session consisted of a warm-up, running drills (technique) and a run session – which built up from a couple of minutes’ running, to a steady 40-minute run.

Participants were set ‘homework’ runs each week too, which included a group trip to Black Park parkrun on week 10.

A team of leaders from Gade Valley Harriers led the weekly sessions.

Edward Price, lead coach, said: “We are very proud of our Learn to Run group. They all worked really hard and I think they were quite surprised at how quickly they were able to progress.

“It’s important for our club that we cater for runners of all abilities and we are pleased to say this course was a huge success.”

Gade Valley Harriers meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Boxmoor Cricket Club, St Johns Road.
