A GOLFER from Berkhamsted has moved a step closer to representing Great Britain at the world’s largest amateur golf competition.
Les Brown, 61 – along with his playing Partner David Leigh – has claimed a spot at September’s Audi Quattro Cup UK Final golf tournament after winning a regional final at Goodwood Golf Club in West Sussex.
Brown and Leigh triumphed with a score of 41 points in the Stableford event, beating their nearest competitors by a three point margin.
They came out on top in a field of 24 pairs of amateur golfers, with each duo having earned a place at the regional final by virtue of a top placing in one of over 30 qualifying tournaments.
Five teams progress to the UK final.
Ultimately, two pairs will represent Great Britain at the Audi Quattro Cup World Final at The Mission Hills Resort in China in November.
The Audi Quattro Cup – being staged for the 21st year – is the world’s largest amateur golf competition, with almost 80,000 players from over 50 countries expected to compete for a place in the week-long World Final.
