CANOEIST Robin Vasey saw his Olympic dreams shattered as he missed the cut for the Great Britain selection event.
Vasey had been hoping to do enough to qualify for the selection meet which takes place later this month, but an all-important win proved agonisingly elusive in his three latest races.
First up for the former Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club member was a trip to Cardiff for the UK Premier Race 3.
Vasey battled hard, eventually taking eighth spot – only 3.6 seconds away from second place.
Next up were two races on the River Tay in Scotland, and Vasey was left pondering what might have been as he finished second in both contests.
He was pipped to top spot by James Bailey in Race 4, before finishing as runner-up to Campbell Walsh in Race 5.
Both Bailey and Walsh will be competing at the Great Britain Olympic selection meet in two weeks’ time.
Vasesy said: “I have to be happy with a consistent weekend but the illustrious win still eludes me.”
