Gade Valley Harriers tackle marathons across the country

It was a marathon weekend for the Gade Valley Harriers, with entrants in The Brighton, Blackpool and Manchester Marathons on Sunday.

In Brighton, Mick Whelan, Peter Tucker, Helen Terry, Michael Ferris, Joanna Kidd, Andy Terry, Simon Wallis, Gerry Jugoo, Steve Reeve, Gemma Bitaraf, Odette Messenger, Kelly Smyth, Peter Tucker and Rob Potton took on the course with great success and several PBs between them.

In Blackpool, Harriers club chairman Andy Newing celebrated his birthday by completing his 10th marathon in a very respectable 4 hours, 27 minutes and five seconds – finishing in 288th place out of 393 runners.

Meanwhile at the Manchester Marathon, Simon Geary, Paul Rumble, Steve Newing and Martin Storrie joined more than 7,000 other runners – with Simon and Paul setting PBs.

Elsewhere, Vince Ellerby completed his 200th parkrun at Black Park, Slough, in a season’s best time of 19m, 15s with Mark Crabtree setting another PB of 17:17. John Lawler, returning from injury, came home in 20:02.

Harriers’ Maxine Bateman competed in the Snowdonia Half Marathon, completing the super hilly course in 2h, 25m.

Nine Harriers will be in action at the London Marathon on Sunday.
