Firsts flattened as Seconds net a win at last

HOCKEY: Berkhamsted Firsts lost to St Albans Exiles in a high-scoring affair on Saturday.

After going 3-0 down, Berko fought back well and Gary Stanwell deflected past the keeper to reduce the deficit.

In the second half, Berko’s Duncan Hodges slotted the ball home to make it 3-2, to give the visitors hope of an equaliser.

But it wasn’t to be for Berko, and St Albans pounced to secure a 4-2 win.

Meanwhile, Berko Seconds finally secured an elusive win as they defeated St Albans.

After a St Albans opener, Payton scored a goal in each half for Berko to grab the 2-1 win. Berko’s McManaman, who was who put in a fine defensive display, was named man of the match.
