Dacorum and Tring AC athletes Laurette Wenborn and Nikki Greaves were part of the successful Herts Schools combined events U15 girls’ team that beat seven other county teams – including event favourites Hampshire – to place first overall in the South East regional final at Lee Valley on Sunday.

Laurette placed fifth overall, posting a new points total of 2750, beating her old mark by 181 points.

She produced a new PB of 4.90m in the long jump as well as in the 800m, where she knocked nearly 10 seconds off her previous best with a time of 2:38.54.

Nikki, meanwhile, produced four personal bests, despite falling off the high jump mat and landing on her head – a nasty fall which led to an hour’s rest and several scans performed by the paramedic team.

In the end, she bettered her previous performances in the high jump, long jump, shot put and 75m hurdles, adding 155 points to her previous overall points total, which now stands at 2,307 points.

The Herts team has now qualified for the ESAA national combined event team finals in Boston in September.
