Dacorum Borough Council welcomed one of the top cyclists competing in this year’s Women’s Tour to see the final stage route and visit local schools to help with the build-up to the big race.

Lauren Creamer, one of the professional riders in the prestigious Pearl Izumi-Sports Tours International Team, was a big hit with the children when she appeared in her full cycling gear along with her bike.

On her visit to Dacorum, Creamer said: “This was my first visit to the area and it’s a lovely route and a lovely area to ride through. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and doing my fair share of work for my team during the race.”

The finish line in Gadebridge Park will be one of the best places to view the race on Sunday, 21 June and thousands of spectators are expected to gather in the park and along key parts of the route.

Cllr Neil Harden, portfolio holder for residents and corporate services, said: “Having the Men’s Tour of Britain come into the Dacorum last year inspired a lot of people to take an interest in cycling.

“Hopefully having the second edition of the Women’s Tour race here so soon afterwards is another opportunity to build on that interest and show Dacorum off to the world and attract more visitors into the area.

“As it’s the second time we are having a major cycling event in the borough, we are hoping for more people to attend and support the race to highlight the involvement of the whole community as it’s a sport that people of all ages can enjoy and it’s a great way of keeping fit and healthy.”

The race will start in Marlow at 10.45am on Sunday, 21 June with a sprint finish into Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead at approximately 2pm.

There will be a community fair in Gadebridge Park from 11am to 5pm with lots of cycling activities, trade and craft stalls, a funfair and lots more.
