BERKHAMSTED Sports Centre Swimming Club’s members can hold their heads high despite relegation from Division One of the Herts League.

In their first campaign in the division, Berkhamsted finished in 11th place and will compete in Division Two next season.

Coach Geoff Wood said: “The squad all raced their hearts out on Saturday night, determined not to go down without a fight.”

Tommy Sheldrick was the club’s sole winner on the night as he stormed to victory in the Open 100m butterfly, and the Berko swimmers also picked up a host of personal bests.

Alistair Welsh, Abbie Brown, Katie Brown, Ellen Northwood, Jennifer Atwill, Sam Gray, Hilary Coulson, Emily kiernan and Ben Rochford all improved their fastest times.

Other stand-out Berkhamsted swims came from Jason Wells, Jo Holden, Jordan Northwood, Jess Potts and Sophie Durbridge.

“The club will undoubtedly return even stronger for the experience in the 2012 league season,” said Wood.
