BERKHAMSTED Sports Centre Swimming Club got off to a fine start in their quest to climb back into Division One of the Herts Peanut League after their relegation from the division last season.

The club hosted the first meet of the new Division Two campaign and led the gala from the first event to claim victory.

The side boasted 11 individual wins, six relay wins, 11 second-placed finishes and six thirds, as well as amassing 38 personal best times.

Jess Potts started the winning theme for Berkhamsted as she romped home to take the opening swim, recording a PB in the process.

Not to be outdone, Abbie Brown, Amy Stoker, Mason Brand, Ellen Northwood, Christian Nel, Rebecca Barry and Katie Brown all followed Potts’ lead by recording victories of their own.

PB’s on the night were clocked by Stoker, Brand, Northwood, Nel, Brown, Ben Brown, Rebecca Weatherley, Tom Weston, Holly Hannaby, Hannah Coulson, Owen Strakosch, Jamie Hoyes, Emily Hannaby, Jandre Nel, Zak Patel, Harriet Horwood-Jones, Louis Cooper, Jonny Warr, and Kieran Elliff.

The club’s Swimmer of the Night awards went to 10-year-old Pixie Woodus, who just failed to hold on in the anchor leg of the girls’ 11 years medley relay despite a brave swim, and nine-year-old Mason Brand who anchored the boys’ 11 years medley relay side to victory by half a second.

Berkhamsted coach Geoff Wood said: “It was the team spirit and fighting for the club that typified the whole night for the youngsters.”
