There were significant wins across Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club at the weekend to leave the dream of promotion success still very much alive.

The result of the day saw the men’s first team beat promotion rivals Shefford & Sandy 5-4 in a top encounter that leaves them four points ahead of their opponents but having played a game more.

Elsewhere, both the men’s second and third teams also won to maintain their respective promotion challenges.

The men’s fourth and fifth teams both suffered narrow defeats, as did the ladies’ first XI, however the ladies’ fourths enjoyed a good win in their friendly fixture against West Herts.

The men’s thirds had a real six-pointer against promotion rivals Harpenden, and they came away with a fully deserved 3-2 win.

Harpenden showed a huge amount of resilience but the Berkhamsted side were professional in the way they closed out the game.

Jeremy Steed picked up the goalcoring mantle, with usual centre forwards Will Goodwyn and Mark Robinson away on holiday.

The men’s second team was left in tatters only an hour before the game, but some last minute shifting around of players saw Berko enjoy a 6-3 win over Luton Town, putting them another step towards promotion.

The men’s fourth XI had the toughest game, going down 3-1 against league leaders Hertford, while the fifths were unlucky to not get something out of their game as they lost 3-2 to Stevenage.

The ladies’ firsts took on West Herts and, after a resurgent few weeks, it was disappointing that they lost the game 3-0.
