Adeyfield C team rip up the form book in the Wren Cup

There were only two shock results as the Hemel Hempstead Table Tennis League teams battled it out in the Wren Cup.

Leading the upsets were Division Three underdogs Adeyfield C who thrashed Division Two opponents Highfield by a colossal 192 points.

Division Two side Crown & Sceptre C also sprung a surprise as they beat Division One outfit Northchurch I by a narrow 12-point margin.

Elsewhere, Adeyfield A edged past KlCC A by just four points while Adeyfield I and Row both won by a six-point margin, against Flamstead C and Crown & Sceptre D, respectively.

Division Two leaders St Michaels I cruised through to the next round with a 39-point win, and reigning champions Crown & Sceptre A bagged a 65-point triumph.

Other winners in the competition were KLCC I, Flamstead A and McAlpine A. Adeyfield B and St Michaels A both received walkovers.

Back in league action, Division One leaders Crown & Sceptre I had an Andy Lewry maximum to thank for their 8-2 win over Adeyfield A.

Adeyfield I won 8-2 against Northchurch I thanks to maximums from Nigel Finn and John Fox, while Crown & Sceptre A drew 5-5 with Row thanks to a Ken Stonebridge treble.

Angela Smith and Tony Coober also helped themselves to maximums as Flamstead I demolished Crown & Sceptre B 9-1.

In Division Two, St Michaels I increased their lead at the top with a 10-0 whitewash of third-placed Crown & Sceptre C, while McAlpines I had Trevor Leverno and Alex Hamilton to thank for a comfortable 8-2 victory over Adeyfield B.

Matching the performance of their first team, Division Three side St Michaels A thumped Crown & Sceptre D 10-0, and Flamstead C had a Tony Burke maximum to thank for a 5-5 draw with Flamstead C.
