Dacorum Diving Club youngsters picked up a hat-trick of gold medals in their respective age group categories at the ASA’s National Skills Finals.

The event, which was held at the Manchester Aquatic Centre at the weekend, saw Katie Townsend from Boxmoor (10-year-old girls), Mason Mills from Hemel Hempstead (11-year-old boys) and Berkhamsted’s Millie Bobrowski (14 to 16-year-old girls) swoop for well-deserved victories.

In total, nine Dacorum divers competed in the annual national novice competition, taking on 236 divers from 20 different clubs in 12 separate events.

Every diver previously had to achieve a tough recommended standard, at one or more regional competitions, in order to be selected to dive at the finals, where the youngsters were grouped according to gender and age – from eight to 16 years.

Each competition consisted of between 10-12 dives across 3m, 1m and poolside, with Dacorum demonstrating why they are considered one of the top diving clubs in the country.

Mason and Millie’s coach Chris White said: “We are hugely proud of all our divers at the club; they train up to 13 hours a week – both in the pool and in the gym – and it is fantastic when they can represent the club at national competitions and reap the rewards of all their hard work.”
