KINGS Langley have been crowned County Trophy champions after beating local rivals Northchurch by seven wickets in the final of the competition.

The teams had to wait nearly four hours for the rain to stop and the organisers decided that the match would be a 20-20 game instead of 50 overs per side.

Batting first, Northchurch scored 89-8 with Andrew Burnell taking 3-15, Tom Sambrook 3-26, Adam Griffiths 1-7 and Mark Brazier 1-16. The bowlers were superbly backed up by their fielders, highlighted by a stunning catch by Joe Cooke.

In reply, Kings quickly set about the run chase with Mitch Roberts leading the way with 35 and Paul Ashford 18. Mark Brazier was not out for 20 as they cruised home in 15 overs.

The win capped off a fine season for Kings Langley, who saw the first and second teams both gain promotion from their respective leagues.

The first XI secured a place in the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League second division while the seconds will ply their trade in Division Six next year.

The first XI drew with Stevenage to clinch their promotion and the seconds saw off rivals Abbots Langley.
