Golfers swing by to do battle for the medals

IT was May Medal time at Little Hay this week.

In the men’s competition, Steve Pinnock took the Division One honours with a score of 69, with Michael Reader and Colin Halcombe two shots adrift in second and third place, respectively.

In Division Two, Chris Harper’s 68 was good enough to hand him top spot, while Lee Simons took second with 70 and James Morris finished third with 72.

The ladies’ competition, meanwehile, was won by Elaine Meagher with a score of 68. Chris Marsden (70) and Linda Cusick (72) finished second and third, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the second round of the nine-hole Midsummer Evening League, the best score was 20 points by Hee-Young Crowhurst, followed by Paul Whiter, Phil Jefferson and Jerry Clarke, all with 19 points.

Alan Freeman leads the league after two rounds, while second is Mike Reader, ahead of Ivan Lawrence in third.

Elsewhere, in the second round of the National Hawtree mixed team competition, Little Hay played Bird Hills Golf Club from Maidenhead and picked up a 265-259 victory.

Little Hay will play Rickmansworth in the third round.

In other action, the Little Hay seniors enjoyed a convincing home win on Tuesday against Batchwood, losing just one match out of six.
