Tring Athletic suffered their fourth defeat in the space of a week as an Anthony Anstead brace earned St Margaretsbury all three points at The Grass Roots Stadium.

The visitors edged the opening exchanges but it was Tring who took the lead when Chris Salmon leapt to powerfully head home and put his side in front.

The visitors came back strongly as the half drew to a close, however, and they grabbed an equaliser through leading scorer Anstead right on the stroke of half-time.

Anstead picked the ball up 40 yards from goal, turned his marker, advanced on goal and lashed home from 25 yards.

Level at the break, St Margaretsbury came out for the second half looking confident, but Tring came close to regaining the lead through Stewart King who was thwarted by an excellent save.

Anstead then had a header blocked by Salmon, before Lasalle Simon and Salmon came close at the other end in quick succession.

Having survived this scare, the visitors secured all three points with just two minutes remaining. Anstead, cutting in from the left, tried his luck from 20 yards and his mis-hit strike wrong-footed Tring keeper Mike Underwood and found the back of the net.

The defeat leaves Tring in 16th position in the MSSML Premier Division table, while high-flying St Margaretsbury remain in fourth place.
