Hemel Hempstead Town have sent striker John Frendo on loan to Southern Premier Division side Hitchin Town for a month.

The centre-forward, who scored 100 goals in a three-season spell with Hitchin before leaving the club to join St Albans City in 2013, will return to Top Field on a four-week deal.

Frendo, who bagged 44 goals in 48 games in his last season with Hitchin, will be in the Canaries’ matchday squad for this Saturday’s game with Paulton Rovers.

The striker has struggled with fitness since joining the Tudors in the summer, and his loan spell will give him valuable minutes on the pith as he looks to regain match sharpness.

Speaking about the loan, Tudors boss Dean Brennan said: “I just looked at the fixtures – I think they (Hitchin) have something like nine or 10 games in the space of four or five weeks, and that’s what Frendo needs.

“He hasn’t had a pre-season because he was injured so he’s gone there to get games. I thought he did alright for us in the games he played; he had at least three good attempts in each of those games but he just needs to be that little bit sharper.

“He’s gone to play games, which is what he needs, so it’s a positive move all round.”
