TringRugby battled through the rain, mud and wind to secure a 17-12 victory over Hertford in their last National Three London and South East fixture of 2013.

It was a gutsy display from Tring, who fought back from 12-7 down at half-time to secure victory with 10 unanswered points after the interval.

Tring notched the first points of the match when Zak Michalski went over for a converted try in the 17th minute, but Hertford hit back soon afterwards as Chris Joannou scored while the home side had a man in the sin-bin.

Alex Bendin made good ground and fed Joannou to touch down before Jack Mann’s conversion levelled the scores.

The awful playing conditions were leading to handling errors from both teams, but Hertford strung together a nice sequence of passes to take the lead with their second try as Bendin and Luke Sloan combined to set up centre Stuart Smart.

Tring missed a penalty at the end of the half, but they began to take control after the break as Jannou was forced off with an ankle injury.

Will Mitchell cut the deficit with an excellent penalty kick following an off-side decision aginst Sam White, and the hosts went in front soon afterwards when No 8 Lawrence Tauasosi forced the ball over the line from a rolling maul.

The conversion took the hosts into a 17-12 lead and, despite Mitchell missing a penalty late on, Tring held firm to bag the points.
