Hemel Town Ladies 3 Leighton Town Vixens 1
HEMEL Hempstead Town Ladies saw off a young Leighton side to keep their FA Cup dreams alive.
With a string of injuries, Hemel were struggling to field fit players in the second qualifying round clash, but the Tudors dominated proceedings from the off.
The hosts pinned their opponents back in their own half for the majority of the game, but it was not until the 35th minute that the deadlock was broken.
Nash Mohamed hit a tremendous strike from 25 yards to give Hemel the lead, before Lizzie Sergeant took the ball down on the edge of the six yard box and lobbed the keeper to double her side’s advantage five minutes later.
The Tudors started the second half as they had finished the first, dictating the game and looking like comfortable winners.
However, a touch of complacency began to creep in to the Tudors’ play and Leighton hit back to half the deficit.
That, though, sparked Hemel back into life in the final 10 minutes.
And the killer goal duly arrived in stoppage time as Suzy Read powered home a fine strike from outside the area to put the result beyond doubt.
After their cup exploits, it is back to league action for Hemel next week as they travel to Eastbourne.
