The Tudors are hit for six

Promotion chasing Hemel Hempstead Town endured a night to forget as they were thrashed 6-1 by St Neots.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Hemel were left shellshocked after the break as St Neots blasted home a five-goal salvo to wrap up the emphatic win.

Hemel had gone into the game on the back of a five-game unbeaten run, but were made to pay for a poor defensive display and a lack of cutting edge up front.

The Tudors did, in fact, dominate possession for large parts of the game, but St Neots took their chances in clinical fashion to leave Hemel with plenty to think about ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bedford.

Dan Jacob gave St Neots the lead in the first half, and the advantage was doubled after the break by Dubi Ogbonna.

Jacob added his second goal of the game to make it 3-0, before Jordan Parkes pulled one back for Hemel.

Hopes of a Tudor revival were short-lived, though, and the rest of the game belonged to Ben McKay – the big St Neots striker crashing home a quick-fire hat-trick to cap off a miserable night for Hemel.

The defeat sees the Tudors stay in second place in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, seven points adrift of league leaders Leamington who have two games in hand.

Hemel are four points clear of nearest challengers Stourbridge and Barwell, but both sides have played a game less than the Tudors.

Hemel will be looking for a robust response when they welcome Bedford to Vauxhall Road on Saturday.
