Berkhamsted have made it through to the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup thanks to a comfortable win at home to fellow Premier division side Hadley on Saturday afternoon.

It has been a promising opening to the campaign for Mick Vipond’s Comrades side, and they kept up their unbeaten start to the campaign with goals from Lawrence Bunker, Dan Griggs and youngster Josh Chamberlain.

The side will have to wait to find out who their next round opponents will be, however, as Uxbridge came from two goals behind to draw 2-2 with Wembley on Sunday to earn a replay.

Berko deserved the win against Hadley, and they took the lead in the 17th minute through Bunker.

The Comrades hit-man got his head to a Bekim Culaj corner, and the ball found the net despite the afforts of a Hadley defender on the line.

Hadley nearly levelled before the interval when a shot was deflected on to the inside of the goalpost and somehow bounced out into play, but Berko made sure of the win in the 49th minute when they doubled their lead.

It was a game of pinball at the Canal End as Griggs’ long shot hit the post, before Bunker followed up and keeper Russell Garland deflected his shot on to the post again.

Berko finally got the ball in the net however, as the powerful rebound was put away by Griggs who ran in and netted his second goal of the week.

Garland then saved well with his feet as Bekim broke free, before Cahmberlain - who has been out of action with a hamstring injury - came off the bench in place of Connor Calcutt who had picked up a knock.

And it was the substitute who wrapped up the victory for the buoyant Comrades. Bunker was in unselfish mood as he rounded the last defender and just had the keeper to beat, but he squared the ball to Chamberlain who had no trouble in slotting home to make it 3-0.

Berko boss Mick Vipond’s hopes of keeping a first clean sheet of the season were dashed in the last minute when substitute Chas Bayford netted a late consolation for the visitors, but the Comrades were good value for their win.
