Tasker heroics earn a point for Levy Green

CARL Tasker was the hero for Leverstock Green as his last-minute penalty save halted his side’s five-game losing run.

Green had put in a much-improved display, but Steve Heath’s side required a 95th minute stop from keeper Tasker to ensure they went away with a point against Stotfold.

“It was a good performance and the boys did well,” said Heath – who announced last week that he will be leaving Pancake Lane at the end of the season.

“Going into the 95th minute I was a bit disappointed that we hadn’t won the game.

“But then when they got a penalty and Tasker made a great save, we were suddenly absolutely delighted with the draw.”

Green were the better side throughout the game, and came close early on through James Bent, who saw his effort blocked.

Lewis Holmes shot wide when clean through, and Ben Butler fired narrowly over as Green cranked up the pressure.

Levy did have the ball in the net shortly afterwards, but Louis Austin saw his effort ruled out for offside.

Tasker was forced into action at the other end to deny Sean Herr, but Green continued to boss proceedings going into half-time.

Both sides had chances after the break, and Levy substitute Lewis Pritchard squandered an excellent opportunity as he lashed an effort over the bar.

Stotfold rallied as the game reached its conclusion, and they were given a golden opportunity to snatch all three points when Ross Miller brought down Lee Harman in the area.

It looked as though Green would be consigned to their sixth defeat on the spin, but Tasker guessed right to deny Andy Carter with a fine penalty stop to ensure the game ended all square.

“We had mixed emotions at the end but we were the better team,” said Levy boss Heath. “We played the better football and created the better chances.

“We’re not looking at the league table now – we are just trying to win as many games as we can from now until the end of the season.”
