Kings Langley bowed out of the FA Cup with a battling display at St Margaretsbury, as a poor first 20 minutes proved costly.

Lee Roberts put St Margaretsbury ahead after 10 minutes, before Evan Connolly’s blistering drive was superbly saved by host keeper Matt Deamer.

He equalled that five minutes later, using his feet to keep out Sam Warrell’s goal-bound shot, and St Margaretsbury doubled their advantage from the penalty spot on 19 minutes after a foul by Jack Johnson.

Within three minutes, however, Kings were back in the game as Connolly’s through-ball was expertly converted by Jimmy Armstrong.

The defining moment came 50 seconds into the second period as St Margaretsbury substitute Adam Lawton hit a dipping volley past Ross Hampton to make it 3-1.

Substitute Tom Carter pulled a goal back late on, but St Margaretsbury held on to secure the win and seal their progression to the next round.
