TRING Athletic lost out to Hillingdon Borough in the Challenge Trophy semi-finals as a controversial early goal proved decisive.

Hillingdon took the lead in the sixth minute, although there appeared to be a foul on the Tring goalkeeper.

The referee saw nothing wrong with the challenge, though, and allowed the goal to stand – much to the dismay of the Tring players and management.

Athletic worked their way back into the game and created some decent goalscoring opportunities, but came up against an in-form Borough keeper.

And the Tring task was made more difficult in the 54th minute after Jack Thomson was given his marching orders following two yellow cards in quick succession.

To Athletic’s credit, they continued to press in search of an equaliser and dominated the remainder of the game, but Hillingdon held on to book their place in the final.
